- Oklahoma State Personnel Development Grant
Goal 4: Improving Post-School Outcomes for Youth with Disabilities
GOAL 4: To Improve Post-School Outcomes for Youth with Disabilities Through the Delivery of High Quality Transition Planning.
Secondary Transition
The OSDE-SES takes great strides toward improving secondary transition planning, programs, and services for youth with disabilities. To further support and enhance the work already established by the agency, the SPDG proposed to do several activities as outlined below.
- A committee made up of several stakeholders will develop a handbook for secondary transition planning. This handbook will be developed for use by all special education teachers, students, parents, special education directors, administrators, and related service providers.
- The OSDE-SES will contract with secondary transition experts in the state and at the national level to provide direct support to regional transition teams who attended the Oklahoma Transition Institute (OTI). This support will include technical assistance, resources, six trainings annually, and evaluation of 16 team plans annually.
- The OSDE-SES will collaborate with the National Dropout Prevention Center-Students with Disabilities (NDPC-SD), National Post-School Outcomes Center (NPSO), and National Secondary Transition Technical Assistance Center (NSTTAC) to provide direct support to local education agencies (LEAs) working toward improving on Indicators 1, 2, 13, and 14 of the State Performance Plan (SPP).
- NSTTAC will also partner with the OSDE-SES to provide site-based technical assistance to at least two teams/sites toward building capacity to implement the transition plan developed at the OTI.
- Finally, the SPDG will financially support a Master Teacher (pdf) in the area of secondary transition. This person will be an expert in the area of secondary transition and provide a specific number of trainings across Oklahoma each year. The Master Teacher program is a program in Special Education Services which is modeled after an ongoing program developed through the Office of Curriculum Standards.
